Here we go everyone, strap yourselves in...
07:10Whitney HillsSo I have finally decided to start blogging! Please be patient with me, as I am completly technologically illiterate. For those of you that don`t know me, I am a fitness nut, and like many of you, trying to find balance in my life. I am a nutritionist and personal trainer, that absolutly loves what I do! I feel so blessed to work with amazing people every day. I am trying to persue a Masters degree in Physiotherapy, and learning as much as I can.
I have been graduated and practicing nutrition for about 5 years now, and have been personal training for over 3 years, but exercising and weight lifting from a very young age. I also have a minor in psychology, which I believe is very important in the fitness and health industry. Behaviour change is a complex thing, and there are many factors involved in getting one to change habits and adopt new ways of thinking.
I personally love working with women of all ages. Women have different health issues than men, and are much more emotional which adds another dimension into adopting an exercise routine. Family, social support, menopause, and hormones all need to be taken into consideration while planning an exercise and nutrition regime! I hope to touch on many of these factors further into the blog. I want to make exercise as simple as possible for women. I will go to womens homes or gyms so they do not have to take time out of thier busy scedules, or leave thier children unattended. This is important for seniors as well- my oldest client is 86, and in the winter it is much easier for me to go to her! No risk of slipping, and no insecurities in a gym. I can teach anyone to exercise in their home with minimal equipment. While one cannot become a bodybuilder with a stability ball and dumbells alone- one can improve thier strength, health, and body weight, and reduce thier risk for disease.
Another thing to touch on in my first post: the healing power of nutrition! I believe in a diet high in natural, unprocessed plant foods, and a few essential supplements. Our society is so quick to turn to medication or quick fixes. There is nothing better than a balance of healthy foods and nutrients alongside exerciseand stretching every day. I have treated many individuals with diabetes and osteoporosis who have reduced or stopped their medication with a proper nutrition plan and exercise routine, and of course follow up with their doctors.
I hope to be posting on a daily a basis! I am currently about 7 weeks away from my next fitness competition- the IDFA Eastern Canada Classic in Montreal. Please feel free to leave any questions or comments!
