October Issue of Best Health Magazine

I was riding the bike today and came across the October Issue of Best Health Magazine. I must say I was impressed! So impressed I borrowed the magazine and came right up to blog about it! This magazine talks fashion, beauty, fitness gear, healthy recipes, and over all well being, very well rounded. I thought I would include some interesting tid bits I discovered:

From the article Exercise Your Aging Options:

  • One study showed that healthy males started showing signs of insulin sensitivity, increased abdominal fat, and decreased fitness levels after about 2 weeks of activity reduction. They started walking 10 000 steps a day and were reduced to 1 500.
  • 85% of the population doesn't exercise enough to prevent chronic disease! This is plain scary, I like to think that the 20-30 year old crowd is getting better and putting activity on the forefront of our minds.
This is scary! Many of my clients log on the fit bit and the sad reality is that many do not hit  10 000 which should be our daily target. I always tell my clients to try to avoid taking more than one week off of exercise unless necessary, because our health will start to be affected at about two weeks of being sedentary.

  • Exercise is very important when your career is taking off in you 40s because it helps your brain! It can aid in memory, concentration, and your ability to focus. Even if you do not see weight loss from exercise, it helps to prevent diabetes, improve lipid profiles, lower blood pressure and prevent disease and even lines and wrinkles!

Taken from the Winter Recipe Page
  • One reason why fit women look younger is that working out causes a specific protein to be released through the body that results in a younger looking skin! To achieve these results women over 65 had to work out two hours a week for three months!
Check out the October issue for some great squash recipes including:
  • Roasted Squash Salad with toasted Honey Oats and Pear Vinagrette
  • Roasted Salmon and Squash with tricoloured Quinoa
  • Turkey Sausage Stuffed Acorn Squash
  • Butternut Squash Mac and Cheese

Unfortunately these recipes are not yet on the website, but keep your eyes peeled for the issue or check for update.

Also in this issue is everything you need to know about getting a good nights sleep!

Sweet dreams my friends.
