Vegan Protein Powders
12:54Whitney HillsVegan protein powder has been becoming increasingly popular in North America. Many people are avoiding lactose and/or dairy, and find that vegan protein powder is easily digestible and clean. Unfortunately, the taste and mixability of vegan powder is not quite the same as whey protein. However, it is getting better. I am no means an expert on vegan nutrition, but am doing my best to learn for my clients.
Be sure to check out the wonderful resources on this page for nutrition info and recipe ideas. No excuses now my lovely vegan clients!
It can be challenging to get enough protein in your diet as a vegan. Having a shake and a bar everyday can ensure that you are on your way to meeting your nutrition and fitness goals.
Here are some of my top recommendations for vegan protein:
1. Iron Vegan:
I really like this company. The have an sprouted organic protein, which comes from 5 plant sources, is non GMO and organic. Sprouting allows for a higher amount of vitamins and enzyme activity for easy digestion. They also have an athletes blend which has added glutamine for enhanced recovery, as well as some really delicious protein bars and a fermented glutamine product. The products do not have any fillers or added sweeteners, and they use environmentally friendly packaging. Try the salted caramel bar.

2. Sunwarrior

Check out some great recipes from sunwarrior in the link above!
Sunwarrior is known for their high quality vegan protein. There are three options as well as protein bars (which I haven't tried as the price tag is a bit much).
The Classic Protein is made from brown rice. I don't enjoy brown rice protein as the flavour is a big turn off.
"Warrior Blend is a synergistic combination of pea, goji berry, and hemp
proteins with the bonus of medium chain triglycerides from coconut.
Warrior Blend has a slightly better amino acid profile and includes the
anti-inflammatory power of coconut to speed recovery.
Classic Plus relies on brown rice, pea, quinoa, chia, and amaranth for
ancient grain goodness without the gluten or carbs. It has a similar
amino acid profile to Warrior Blend, but a slightly different texture
and flavor."
The website offers great suggestions on upcycling the packaging which is great, along with recipes and chances to win trips etc.
3. Genuine Health Fermented Vegan Protein
This fermented protein is great for your gut health, digestion, and absorption. If you have gut issues, this is the protein for you. It is sourced form pea and rice protein, and is not my favourite tasting as I find it a bit chalky and gritty. The vegan fermented bars however, are a favourite. They offer a variety of flavours like maple walnut, strawberry pistachio, coconut lemon, and chocolate pb! Check out the wonderful website for great resources and nutrition ideas and articles.

Arbonne makes some delicious vegan protein. This is one that I enjoy even with water. It has pea, rice and cranberry protein, and is great at 10g protein in a 13g scoop (use two scoops!).

5. Progressive
I love Progressive products and truly believe that they are high quality. They offer a vegan and fermented vegan protein. The regular vegan protein also has a full range of botanicals like sea vegetables, pineapple and papaya for digestion and dandelion and flax. This is a pea, rice, hemp and cranberry protein.
The sprouted fermented vegan protein also contains amaranth, millet, and quinoa.
The VegeGreens® Vegan Protein is a combination of my fave green food supplement and a protein. "It provides the entire spectrum of land, sea and cruciferous vegetables, as well as super green foods, plant oils, phytonutrients, herbs & extracts and botanicals found in VegeGreens®, along with a strategic blend of 5 vegetable sourced proteins and the complete array of support nutrients found in Harmonized Vegan Protein®."
