Spring Reset
10:29Whitney HillsWhile it certainly doesn't feel like spring outside, I have been making changes inside that make it feel like a fresh start.
First off I'm trying to conquer the coffee addiction and fight off inflammation. Achy joints and muscles are a regular occurrence for me, so I'm trying to replace my coffee with an anti-inflammatory elixer in the AM that has a bit of a kick! Thanks to Daryll Nippard for feeding me these every Saturday. I started to crave them and thought it would be a great habit.
His recipe contains:
lemon juice
lime juice
orange juice
purreed ginger
cayenne pepper
honey
The measurements are a secret, but there is a recipe below. I made mine with bottled lemon juice, fresh grapefruit, fresh lime, stevia, and bottled crushed ginger. I must admit I have actually been feeling much better the last couple days-- the ginger is antinflammatory, the citrus aids in digestion, and the cayenne boosts metabolism and may help with oxygen and nutrient delivery :)

For those of you suffering from stiffness and joint pain, be sure to take your omega fatty acids, and try to include anti-inflammatory foods like ginger and tumeric, or add a curcumin supplement to your diet. Some experts think that consumption of these anti inflammatory foods may prevent Alzheimers, which starts as an inflammation in the brain. Don't forget that stretching and activity is also an important part of total body health, so along with eating well, get that body moving!
Another way to feel better is to cut out those processed carbohydrates and fill up on lean protein and fish, vegetables, raw nuts and berries. Cut out bread, pasta, and refined sugar for a week and see how much better you feel, While I don't believe in juice cleanses, sometimes we need to remember how great it feels to eliminate the foods that may cause inflammation in the body. While everything is alright in moderation, it is easy to get carried away with the processed foods when we are stressed.
Challenge yourself to do some spring cleaning on your diet!
