Food Comparisons

19:28Whitney Hills

The holidays are here again, and we are tempted with holiday goodies, fatty appetizers, and hot beverages. I make excuses and nibble away here and there, forgetting that calories really add up quickly. Calorieking.com offers a comparion tool, that lets you see where you can save on fat, sugar, and calories.
Here is an example of a few ways to cut back during the holidays...

4oz turkey leg/thigh with skin: 192kcal, 6.1g fat, 1.9g sat fat, 90mg sodium, 32 g protein
4oz turkey breast, skinless: 153kcal, 0.8g fat, 0.3 g sat fat, 59g sodium, 34g protein
(I love dark meat, and will eat it this christmas. Everything in moderation).

Tall eggnog latte with 2% milk, no whip: 366kcal, 16g fat, 10g sat fat, 41g carbs! 0 fibre :(
Skinny Peppermint mocha, tall: 100 kcal, 1 g fat, 13g carbs, but 3 g fibre :)

Pecan Pie, from recipe, 1/8th slice: 503kcal, 21g fat, 63g carbs
Pumpkin Pie from recipe, 1/8th slice: 316 kcal, 14g fat, 41g carbs

Turtles, 3 pieces (1.8oz): 240kcal, 14g fat
Hersheys dark kisses, 9 pieces (1.4oz): 180kcal, 12g fat

Artichoke asiago and crab dip appetizer: 1/4 order 308 kcal, 28g fat, 885mg sodium, 8g protein
Shrimp cocktail 4oz!: 85kcal, 1017mg sodium, 8g protein
In this situation the sodium is high in the shrimp cocktail, but it is a better choice overall. Consume a lot of water :)

Good luck over the holidays! Remember to fill up on veggies and lean protein, and do not attend events hungry. You are at risk for overeating and overdrinking. Keep some nuts in your purse or a protein bar. There are delicious chocolate mint protein bars to curb your cravings, or indulge in a few hersheys kisses or a satisfying Lindt truffle. Nuts are a good choice, in moderation, as long as they are not coated in sugar or fried. Keep the cheese to a minimum, and stay away from the buffet table. Working out will keep you feeling tight, fit, and less likely to overeat. Tight fitting clothes will make it uncomfortable to overeat and keep you consious of your figure.  Enjoy the holidays with good company, kind deeds, and love to fill your inner hunger. Enjoy your weekend readers!

Annual Cookie Decorating. We try not to eat too much, but I look forward to this every year. My Nonnie, myself, my cousin Keena, her daughter Angelica, and my cousin Kamellah are pictured here. Hard at work!
