My happy intestine recipes!
21:47Whitney Hills I am huge fan of probiotics, having had IBS in the past,I know which foods keep my tummy happy and lean. I used to get all sorts of infections and was even tested for HIV since these infections were the sort that only very uncompromising people got. After 20 days of diflucan and painful thrush(!) I swore I would never see another infection again...and I haven' t! Many people experience infection after taking antibiotic since they wipe out all the healthy bacteria in the intestines. Believe me, getting rid of candida can be very frustrating and costly, not to mention exhasting on the body. Prevention is the best medicine.
I love my greek yogurt, and have recently added kefir to my diet. Kefir is a fermented milk product, and some contain up to 37 billion healthy bacteria per 100mL. It does contain some lactose, but has 20 strains of bacteria and yeast.
Kefir is quite strong and potent, and I would recommend consuming it in a shake. Just like greek yogurt, it can benefit from some sweetness. I am watching my sugar intake, and love the health benefits of cranberries. To make my cranberry sauce I throw a whole bag of cranberries on a high heat with about 1/2 cup water. Once it starts boiling, while stiring on a regular basis, lower the heat to about a 2 or 3 on the stove top. Let it thicken up and add splenda or stevia. After it cools it can be saved in the fridge and added to shakes and yogurt or to chicken/turkey, or pork. Yum. Cranberries have 2.3g of fibre per 1/2 cup, and are full of proanthocyanidins which may prevent UTIs and stomach ulcers due to the prevention of h-phylori and E.Coli attachment to the organ system.
Heres my shake:
My kefir comes in a plastic bottle, avoid the flavoured varieties | with sugar. |
1/4 cup cranberry compote
1 scoop plain protein powder (one of my clients loves the raw vegan sunwarrior for those sensitive to whey)
touch of water and ice cubes to bled
1 tbsp wheat bran (I like wheat due to the high fiber and bulking effects on the stool, but oat is fine if you are sensitive to wheat)
Otherwise I add the cranberries and bran to my 0% plain greek yogurt. I had the opportunity to visit a cranberry winery a few weeks ago, and it really gives me appreciation for these amazing berries!
Check out sunwarrior! A vegan, hypoallergenic protein powder which is 83% protein. Great for those with sensitive stomachs and allergies. Very clean and easy on the system.
